Update: Mattie has finished his heartworm treatment and is healthy. He is ready for a home of his own! This sweet guy is the perfect size - not too big too handle and not too small to be a yippy little guy. He is enjoys walks and then is ready to settle down for a cuddle and nap with his new family. He has years of life left to live - please give him a home to spend his golden years.
Handsome Mattie has quite the story to tell. At eight years old, he has spent his entire life living at the end of a chain in someone's yard. Finally, a landlord stepped in and told his renter that his dog needed to live a better life and chaining him wouldn't' be allowed. Mattie then found his way to our rescue, where he is experiencing his first winter indoors. Life outside has taken its toll on this 30 pound dog. He was covered in gigantic, painful matts of fur - -earning him his name. He also has heartworm disease, which is easily prevented through heartworm prevention sold by your vet, but he never got the vet care. We are currently collecting donations to treat his heartworm disease, which is curable with treatment and will not impact his life long-term. When he got his first bath at the rescue, the water literally turned black with years of dirt washing away. This spunky, energetic guy isn't letting these hardships impact his amazing personality. Don't let his age fool you -- he is so happy to be off his chain that he is full of energy. He is always ready for a walk and walks well on a leash. He bounds around getting attention from everyone and wagging his tail in joy at meeting new people. We aren't quite sure what his mix is exactly -- golden? spaniel? corgi due to his long body? We do know that whatever it is makes him a special dog that loves people and loves attention. He deserves to finally have a loving home. Interested?
